Transmission ceremony

On January 6th we had a big ceremony at Upaya. Two men, Joshin and Genzan, received dharma transmission [NL: ontvingen dharma transmissie] from Roshi Joan, thereby fully authorizing them as zen teachers [NL: waarmee ze volledig als zenleraar werden geautoriseerd]. My teacher (who had received dharma transmission in 2012) had come to Upaya for this ceremony, as well as two other dharma succesors [NL: dharma opvolgers] of Roshi's (Shinzan and Al Kaszniak).
There was a big build up [NL: aanloop] before the ceremony. Joshin and Genzan had been preparing [NL: voorbereiden] for months. The 7 days before the ceremony Joshin, Genzan and a small group of others, including myself did jundo three times a day. Jundo is a ceremonial procession where 7 altars all over Upaya were visited, chanting the whole time.
I was lucky enough to be able to be present [NL: aanwezig zijn] for almost all of the ceremonies.
On the day of the final ceremony many pictures were taken. Everybody was wearing their most fancy [NL: chique] zen outfits, the weather was beautiful and there was fresh snow from the night before. And since one of the Upaya residents [NL: bewoners] is a gifted [NL: begaafde] photographer, I have a set of gorgeous photos to share of Upaya at its fanciest [NL: Upaya op z'n sjiekst] .
